Doing our bit for charity - it's good to give back

18/7/2017

For the past couple of years I’ve been part of a Social Club, founded by Suzie Rice of Style Heaven.  We organise a wide range of fun events, which have included a Clothes Swishing evening, a Chocolate Making workshop, a Day at the Races, Afternoon Tea, and an Auction of Promises. But it’s not just about having a good time. As women all running successful businesses locally, we also  want to 'give something back'.  That's why every event we organise includes a donation to our chosen charity, Look Good Feel Better.

This wonderful charity is dedicated to improving the self-esteem, confidence and wellbeing of women (and teenage girls) undergoing treatment for any sort of cancer.  They aim to improve self-image and appearance through free group and self-help skincare and make-up workshops which create a sense of support, confidence, and wellbeing. They have provided support and made a difference to more than 130,000 women.

Our most ambitious event to date has been a Masquerade Ball held at Girton College in early July this year.

Masquerade Ball

I have been longing to organise a ball for some time but was daunted by the amount of work involved in planning an event like this alone.  So I was absolutely delighted to be part of this.

It took a hell of a lot of organising by a committee of strong and resourceful business women, but what a fantastic night it was.

The venue was stunning and the weather could not have been more perfect. It’s not often you get the chance to dress up and everyone embraced this opportunity with open arms. We also danced our socks off.

The climax was of course the presentation of a cheque for £5,500 to Look Good Feel Better. This will fund one year of workshops at the Maggie Centre, Addenbrooke’s - a pretty incredible result of recent fundraising events.

Everyone is now asking when the next big night out is … so watch this space.

There are Look Good Feel Better centres throughout the whole of the UK.  If you know of anyone you think would benefit, more information and contact details are on their website. lookgoodfeelbetter.co.uk
