Helping to launch an artisan business
9/12/2018
Cambridge is teeming with independent businesses and we love working with people just starting out or growing their indie ventures.
Back in 2017 I was approached by the wife of an existing client who wanted to fulfil a life long dream of becoming a baker.
When I first met Jolita she was brimming with ideas but was also feeling daunted at leaving her nursing career to branch out in a completely different field.
While I knew that producing a website to entice customers to her door would not be a problem, I quickly realised that she needed more than this, and it included help with a marketing strategy and branding for this exciting new venture.
Our first task was to present her with a logo design and branding ideas. This was handled by our talented graphic designer, Sarah Croft. The woodcut image we came up with evokes a traditional artisan feel with a contemporary twist, and works well as a stamp on eco-friendly packaging.
For a marketing strategy I immediately turned to Nicolle Halksworth of Cambridge Marketing Consultancy. This was essential to help Jolita reach out to potential customers and create a buzz around the new business in the lead up to the launch. Social media gives small businesses enormous opportunites to engage and interact with the community and potential customers. It takes time and imagination but the rewards are tangible. When the bakery finally opened they were not short of customers.
This engagement and interaction continues with daily posts of photos showing new products as they constantly refine and expand their offering.
We were also able to create a strong online presence for The Cambridge Oven which I am sure will continue to develop as the business expands. It's clean and simple, beautifully showcasing the range of artisan breads, sourdoughs, cakes and pastries.
This project is an excellent example of a successful collaboration by a team of specialists.
