How collaboration can help everyone

Haslingfield Choir has just launched its first website with the help of local artist Ophelia Redpath and Catfish Web Design. Now they’re on the lookout for new members.
The choir was founded 47 years ago and has been an integral part of the community since then. Currently it’s run by Paul Jackson, conductor, pianist, and Director of Music and Performance at Anglia Ruskin University backed by an enthusiastic committee.
Kate Dickens, Committee Secretary says: “We are a really friendly group and love to welcome new people. Through Paul we have the opportunity to collaborate with the Anglia students, but we are acutely aware that we need to enrol new, younger members.”
With this in mind, the Choir approached Jane Horwood of Catfish Web Design (based in the village) to create an exciting online presence that would attract new faces.
“We were a bit stuck when it came to imagery for the website. While it’s important to include photos of the choir we wanted to make an impact with something a little different.” says Juliet Greer, a member of the Committee.
“Jane had the brilliant idea of approaching Haslingfield-based artist Ophelia Redpath whose quirky illustrations often have a musical theme. To our delight Ophelia invited us to her studio and we spent an enjoyable few hours looking at her art and deciding what would work on the website. Ophelia’s illustrations really make the website sing!”
To give people a taster of what the Choir is all about it is holding a ‘Come and Sing’ at All Saints Church in Haslingfield on Sunday 15 July.
“The event is open to anyone who wants to have a go.” says Juliet. “Communal singing can be very uplifting and there’s a great social aspect to being part of the Choir as well.”

During the weekend there will also be an exhibition by Ophelia Redpath of paintings, prints, books and cards. These will be for sale in the church and 10% of the profits will be donated to the Haslingfield Choir.
