Overstream Clean is a social enterprise that offers training and work opportunities to those that have experienced or are at risk of homelessness, and are furthest from the job market. With your support they can give someone the training, work experience and materials to turn their life around.
Thee are inviting companies to sponsor a new recruit. As part of the sponsorship programme the will invite a member of your team to be on the recruitment panel and to take part in mentoring meetings with the new trainee during the year (optional).
Your sponsorship will enable someone to undertake a 6 week training programme in cleaning skills including sessions on safe use of chemicals, manual handling, colour coding of cloths, team skills, customer service and using specialist cleaning equipment such as the window cleaning machine and rug doctor.
Your sponsorship will go towards purchasing a set of uniform for the new recruit, a second hand bike from the Wondergears social enterprise and basic cleaning materials to enable them to work.
Overstream supports those with various barriers to employment including mental and physical ill health, recovering from addictions, criminal records, lack of work history, low levels of literacy and numeracy among other support needs.
In the last year, 15 people took part in Overstream Clean training and gained employment. Taking part in Overstream Clean means that people gain new skills and confidence in their abilities, and there are no-end of benefits to the local community too. For every £1 invested in Overstream Clean, it is have calculated that there is £2.04 of social return in terms of less welfare benefits being claimed, less visits to GPs and additional income tax being paid.
Why sponsor a trainee cleaning operative?
There are benefits to your staff team too. By being involved in this sponsorship programme, members of your staff team will have first-hand experience of the issues of homelessness and real experience of seeing how a charity such as Wintercomfort functions. By taking part in the recruitment panel and mentoring sessions, a member of staff will get real experience of supporting someone to develop and flourish.
Benefits for your company and staff team:
Bronze package: £437
This provides 12 training sessions, 5 sets of uniform and a second hand bike for 1 new recruit. You will be invited to be part of the recruitment of your sponsored recruit and attend a follow up mentoring session (involvement is optional).
Silver package: £ 1,782
Training, uniform, bike and 3 month’s salary for 15hrs/week for 1 new recruit. You will be invited to be part of the recruitment of your sponsored recruit and attend 2 follow up mentoring sessions (involvement is optional). You will receive a 1 x 2 hour clean in your office.
Gold package: £3,128
Training, uniform, bike and 6 month’s salary for 15 hrs/week for 1 new recruit. You will be invited to be part of the recruitment of your sponsored recruit and attend 3 follow up mentoring sessions (involvement is optional). You will receive 2 x 2 hour cleans in your office.
